How to Make a Duct Tape Baseball Cap

Ducktivity provided by Duck® Brand

The sun is finally out of hibernation and it’s time to grab the peanuts and popcorn and head to the ballpark for America’s favorite past-time. To protect yourself from the suns rays as you sit in the stands, create your very own Duck® brand duct tape baseball hat so you can root, root, root for the home team! Simply follow the easy step-by-step directions below and you’ll be as big of a hit as the first homerun of the season!

Directions

Step 1

1 – 1.5 hours

Step 2

To save yourself some time, simply cover an old hat with your favorite color(s) of Duck® brand duct tape!

Step 3

Advanced

Step 4

Make a sheet of Duck® brand duct tape fabric that is 16 inches long and seven inches wide. To make your fabric, lay a strip of duct tape sticky side up on a flat surface. Lay the next strip parallel to the first, slightly overlapping the edge. Continue until you have four strips wide. Then, place additional strips sticky side down over the existing sheet to finish your fabric.

Step 5

Taking the old hat, trace six sections of the hat onto the duct tape with your pen or marker. Cut them out using your scissors.

Step 6

Using small pieces of duct tape, tape the sections together on the inside to create the shape of the hat.

Step 7

Lay out two strips of a different color of Duck® brand duct tape on your cutting board, each measuring seven inches long. Using your utility knife, cut them each in half lengthwise – you will end up with four pieces. Then cut each of those pieces in half lengthwise again so you end up with eight pieces. Take one of the long strips and lay it on top of the hat at the seams. Repeat until all the seams are covered.

Step 8

Lay down your old hat on a piece of poster board and trace and cut out the brim of your duct tape hat. Cover the brim in your favorite color of Duck® brand duct tape and then, using small pieces of duct tape, attach the brim to the rest of the hat. Tape it on both the under and top sides of the hat.

Step 9

  • Duck® brand duct tape
  • An old hat
  • Scissors
  • Utility knife and cutting board
  • Pen or marker
  • Poster board

The skill level and time are both wrong this project only took me about a half an hour! its a lot of fun and great for budget cut backs!

This was AWESOME!!!!! It's the best thing I've ever made out of duck tape. Instead of cutting the old hat, I traced it on to a cardboard and cut it out. Best thing I ever made.

This is the best hat I've ever made!!! I used cardboard in stead of cutting the hat.

that looks super easyy.... and your just covering a hat w/ duck tape... its pretty easy dude

the derections arent simple enough and cut the hat what?!

Hmmmm... looks hard but i'll try!

Okay, ducktapedude, stop being mean. It's duct tape, so it's obviously not gonna look like the one you buy from the baseball park, and besides, im sure it took them alot of work.

well i tried making it like 5 times and it looked weird so i think its really hard and you should put more info for how to make it the shape of the hat.

I can't rate it because I have not tried it. But once I get more duct tape, I can. Plus I would cover my old hat too! Great suggestion.

how bout you keep mean things to yourself ducttapedude

I think that that is so COOL! Does it feel weird on your head at all? I bet, that if I wore that hat, it would feel a bit WEIRD! I looks so cool though! You are talented.

ok, so maybe its not that cool but its still a cute idea. and stop callin it cheap lol

It looks REALLY cool.

I made the hat for my brother and he LOVED it. It's pretty simple.

where can you buy the cutting tool and the cutting board?

I love the look, I haven't done it yet, but it sounds FUN!!!! GONNA GO DO IT!!!! (X

You should've used mustache duck tape. Its not my favorite. I tried making one and it almost KILLED me.

pretty cool. but i cant make this because im not that advanced

I just made one and didn't think it was too hard. I decided to make mine adjustable, so I made the back look like a traditional baseball cap.

looked like a cone... put more details!

that looks hard and umm no offence but wouldnt it make ur head sweaty?

I have a problem. I try to submit a ductivity and it won't let me! It will not insert my photo. I am doing this on my iPad mini and it keeps saying that my pic is too big or wide. Also, when I press the button to put directions, it keeps taking me back to the same page! Please help!

it looks pretty simple but fun! :)
