My family has deep Scottish ancestry, with my family line tracing back to a position of minor Scottish royalty, and I tried to capture that heritage in the design of my suit. My suit is formal Scottish attire, worn traditionally to funerals, weddings, galas, and other such formal events. The suit consists of the jacket, shirt, vest, tie, and formal kilt. I loved the blend of black, red, and gold in my clan crest. I used those colors, along with white and silver accents as well as a mix of celtic and nordic runes, and worked it into my design of the suit jacket. I chose runes with specific meanings like sun and fertility, with twin runes meaning inheritance on the cuffs of my sleeves to symbolize the ancestry I wove into the creation of my suit. The sword was just for fun, and I hope you love my suit as much as I do!

I was inspired by Victorian era dresses. I took elements from the style such as corsets and layered looks. I want to include an umbrella as it reminded of women from the Victorian era out in parks. I used pearls and gemstones to decorate each layer and contour the corset.

My outfit is inspired by Alexander McQueen's Spring/Summer 2007 collection. It features real living flowers which have by now completely disintegrated. I love art that is constantly changing; it will only ever exist in its current state in this present moment. I took that idea of impermanence into this piece with the concept of the butterfly as well as the construction of the garment. Throughout my photoshoot, I allowed the loosely glued flowers to fall off of me, in every single picture the dress is a little different. From beginning to end, change is the only constant.

My dress is inspired by Venetian Masquerade Balls! Reaching their peak around the time of the Renaissance, masquerade balls were elaborate events full of mystery, elegance, and celebration. Masquerades, though originally carnival affairs, quickly evolved into events of pomp and formality. For this reason, I decided to create a dichromatic look of gold and black to marry simplicity with elegance. The ruffles, feathers, and rose features were all inspired by the original carnival costumes in Venice that sported starched ruffs and hats of flamboyant feather arrays. Overall, I am excited to be bringing a glimpse of 13th-century Venice to the modern day! So, as they say in Venice, Arrivederci!

The outfit that I have created was inspired by my admiration for pilots. From a young age, I've had an interest in and love for anything mechanical. This interest grew into a love for airplanes and flying mechanics. In my early preteen years, I created a styrofoam airplane with a motor and propellers. Although I never did get the creation to fly, my interest continued to grow. In recent years, my passion for aeronautics has grown, and I've decided to become a pilot, resulting in the idea for the outfit. The styles and colors that I have incorporated into the outfit, including head gear and binoculars, originated from pilots attributed to the 1930s and 1940s. A time of incredible inventions, and a period of time where they had a lot of class and style!

The dress that you see here was inspired by the traditional Kente cloths that are worn in Ghana. I particularly love their use of vibrant colors and the fact that there is no wrong pattern. Every cloth is unique in its own way. Every shape and line was cut by hand to create this pattern. And inorder to make the jewelry, I used the cardboard that comes with the rolls of duct tape. I wanted something that was challenging to make and would have a lot of details in it, and I believe that I accomplished that.

This duct tape outfit was inspired by Prince. He has always been a music icon, but what I learned this last year, when touring his studio at Paisley Park, did I realize what a fashion icon he was. I wanted to make sure the outfit reflected him as an artist, musician, and Minnesotan. Especially his love for the Vikings, with the color choice of yellow and purple. Not to mention this year is the 40th anniversary of his Purple Rain debut.

The beauty of nature has always mesmerized me, so I knew I wanted this dress to be nature-themed. I also wanted to incorporate my Nigerian culture, so I made a mermaid-style dress, the common style for Nigerian wedding dresses. To accompany the dress, I designed a headpiece and fan inspired by the extravagance of Nigerian traditional wear. The rest of the dress came as I went. For instance, the safari animals and the fish on my skirt were my favorite childhood animals. In addition to Duck Tape, I used what I had at home (trash bags and cardboard boxes) to make my vision come to life.

My dress was inspired by my love for runway shows, butterflies, and my culture. Ever since I was little, I have always loved watching runway shows. The outfits and the way that they flowed always mesmerized me, so when creating my dress, I had the idea to create three pieces out of it, one including a large open fronted skirt that billowed out behind you. I wanted to give the illusion that you were flying through the air with the wind in your dress. This is why I created the scenery where I took my photos to make it look like I was flying through the clouds. I used butterflies because they are beautiful and graceful creatures. They symbolize trust in yourself and change, two things that are extremely present in our lives. I love the way that butterflies seem so effortless, even with the immense amount of force they must use to keep themselves in the air. So, I placed butterflies all over my dress, and gave myself a pair of my own wings. My dad was born and raised in Brazil, and he immigrated here when he was 10 years old. Butterflies symbolize change and migration, so I thought that it was the perfect idea to incorporate them into my dress in order to honor where my family comes from and what they did to get to America. In Brazilian culture, the butterfly symbolizes good fortune and luck. I wanted to create a dress that honored my culture and what I love, so that is exactly what I did.
